Announcement: Additions to iLRN’s Core Research Team

We are excited to welcome three new members of iLRN’s Core Research Team. They will be working closely with the State of XR and Immersive Learning project team, which includes Mark J. W. Lee (Project Leader/Principal Investigator), Jonathon Richter (iLRN Executive Director), Samantha Adams Becker (Project Architect), Paul Signorelli (Project Consultant and Community Manager), Gordon Jackson (Technical Consultant), and Elise Gowen (Project Librarian).

Dr. Rachael Afolabi Royes has been named iLRN’s first honorary Research Fellow, for a 12-month period commencing in October 2019. During this period, she will collaborate with the State of XR and Immersive Learning project team to build synergies between that project and her own ongoing research, which is aimed at developing an instructional design framework for XR learning experiences.

Rachael has extensive experience in corporate learning and development as well as higher education leadership roles. She currently consults with a number of organizations across the world as a digital transformation specialist and is also an adjunct faculty member with Carlow University in Pittsburgh, PA, where she previously held the position of Executive Director, Digital Learning/Workforce Development and Innovation. In that role, she was responsible for spearheading Carlow’s foray into the educational XR arena. Before entering higher education, Rachael led training and instructional design projects at Deloitte, Accenture, Motorola Solutions, and several other global firms.

Noah Glaser joins us as a Research Associate. He is a Ph.D. candidate in the Educational Studies program at the University of Cincinnati, where his research focuses on the design and development of immersive technologies and web-based interventions for individuals with cognitive disabilities. More specifically, his dissertation work examines the use of fully immersive VR platforms to promote the acquisition and transfer of adaptive skills for individuals with autism.

In his capacity as an iLRN Research Associate, Noah will work primarily on the systematic review component of the State of XR and Immersive Learning project. His expertise in design-based research will be a great asset in helping us achieve our goal of deriving evidence-based design knowledge and principles from published studies in the field. He will also begin to develop a collection of exemplars that demonstrate how the design knowledge can be operationalized.

 

 

Allison Hatch's headshot

Allison Hatch, our new Research Assistant, is a Master’s student at the University of Denver in Library and Information Science (LIS) with a concentration in Research Data Management. Originally from central Vermont, she graduated with her BA in Spanish with a minor in Sociology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in 2018. Previously, she worked in varied fields including academic special libraries and in K-12 education. Additionally, she has been involved in research within the field of human development under Dr. April Few-Demo (Virginia Tech).

As part of iLRN’s Core Research Team, Allison hopes to investigate XR technology from a LIS perspective and to assist with information seeking within the iLRN community. She has vested interest in open data initiatives as well as the practical application of XR.
