iLRNFuser Online Game Jams

iLRNFuser is the official Online Game Jam series of the Immersive Learning Research Network. The series provides opportunities for student teams from around the world, participating remotely from their own physical locations, to engage in a hackathon-style game-development marathons. Founded in the spirit of global solidarity and cooperation, iLRNFuser brings together people representing diverse backgrounds, interests, and skill sets to creatively express themselves as well as promote shared understanding through the universal medium of video games.

iLRNFuser Game Jams seek to foster new friendships, build rapport, and create intellectual and professional growth opportunities for students within and beyond the iLRN community. Participants are invited and encouraged to explore new technology tools, try their hands at new roles in game development, and generally push themselves beyond their comfort zone. The process is intense and challenging, but highly rewarding, as it calls for participants design, build, test, and deliver a new game within the condensed timeframe of a single week.

The one-week development cycle for each iLRNFuser Game Jam kicks off on a Sunday morning, when a short video keynote is released that includes advice from leading game developers. At that time, the theme for the Jam is revealed. All teams are then challenged to create games addressing that theme, which must be completed by the following Sunday.

The theme of each iLRNFuser Game Jam is based on one or more of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals:

  • Goal 1: No Poverty
  • Goal 2: Zero Hunger
  • Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
  • Goal 4: Quality Education
  • Goal 5: Gender Equality
  • Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
  • Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
  • Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
  • Goal 10: Reduced Inequality
  • Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
  • Goal 13: Climate Action
  • Goal 14: Life Below Water
  • Goal 15: Life on Land
  • Goal 16: Peace and Justice Strong Institutions
  • Goal 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goal
