Practitioner Poster

Practitioner Poster Awards, co-ordinated by Heather Dodds, have been presented to:

  • Best Practitioner Poster Proposal – “Intellect VR: Learning in VR; the VR experience in the classroom” by Bendangtoshi Tiajungla Jamir
  • Best Practitioner Oral Presentation Proposal – “Lessons Learned from Over A Decade of Designing and Teaching Immersive VR in Higher Education Online Courses” by Eileen O’Connor

Academic Awards

iLRN2020 Academic Awards, process has been co-ordinated by Daphne Economou.

iLRN follows a rigorous review process that evaluates the quality of the submitted papers/presentations based on contribution to Immersive Learning Research, relevance to the conference, rigour of the presented methodology, claims/and conclusions, and clarity of writing. This process is very important in developing a strong academic program formed by high-quality articles and presentations. Submissions to the main academic stream and special tracks of iLRN undergo a triple-blind review process, while work in progress papers and practitioners stream by double-blind review by independent reviewers who are knowledgeable in the pertinent subject area. The reviewers are anonymous and the author’s identity is unknown to the reviewers. Articles are anonymized at the submission stage and are handled in such a way to minimize any potential bias towards the author(s).

Three papers from each of the following categories of the iLRN Academic Stream: Full Paper; Short Paper; and Student Paper are nominated for Academic Awards based on the overall review scores they receive. The nominated papers are evaluated by an independent jury panel that decides the best paper awards. The iLRN2020 independent jury panel consists of:

  • Drew Davidson, Carnegie Mellon University, Entertainment Technology Center, US
  • Erica Southgate, University of Newcastle, Australia
  • Mina C. Johnson, Arizona State University, US

The iLRN2020 academic awards have been presented to:

  • Best Full Paper Award to the paper entitled “Immersive Learning Predicted: Presence, Prior Knowledge, and School Performance Influence Learning Outcomes in Immersive Educational Virtual Environments”, by Andreas Dengel and Jutta Mägdefrau
  • Best Short Paper Award, to the paper entitled “Magnetic Resonance Imaging Visualization in Fully Immersive Virtual Reality”, by Hubert Cecotti, Quentin Richard, Joseph Gravellier and Michael Callaghan
  • Best Student Paper Award to the paper entitled “Different Types of Interaction with Augmented Reality Learning Material”, by Jule Marleen Krüger and Daniel Bodemer

Three papers from each of the Work-In-Progress categories of the iLRN Academic Stream: Doctoral Colloquium; Work-In-Progress are nominated for Academic Awards based on the overall review scores they receive. Those are evaluated by an internal jury panel that decides on the best Work-In-Progress paper awards. The iLRN2020 internal jury panel consists of:

  • Heather Dodds, Senior XR Researcher and Designer, US
  • Foaad Khosmood, Cal Poly University, US

The iLRN2020 Work-In-Progress academic awards have been presented to:

  • Best Doctoral Colloquium Paper Award to the paper entitled “Towards a Better User Interface of Augmented Reality based Indoor Navigation Application” by Bing Liu and Liqiu Meng
  • Best Work-In-Progress Paper Award to the paper entitled “Testing of a Virtual Patient: Linguistic and Display Engagement Findings” by Fei Chen, Yueh Lee and Robert Hubal

Reviewer Awards

iLRN recognizes the valuable contribution of the reviewers in developing a strong academic program with high-quality articles and presentations and acknowledges best reviewers for the rigor of their review, for challenging authors and supporting them to improve their research. Three reviewers from each category of the iLRN program are nominated for best reviewers awards to an internal jury panel that consists of:
