This year, the iLRN 2022 conference is a hybrid event that will take place in two venues:




  • On the iLRN Virtual Campus, with a range of other online environments and platforms being used to augment the attendee experience as well as showcase the affordances of the immersive technologies for learning, social networking, and collaboration.

How to get to University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna 

UAS BFI Vienna is situated in Vienna’s second district at Wohlmutstrasse 22. Its central location makes it very quick and easy to reach by public transport, car or taxi. 

1. Public transport

Underground line U2: Messe Prater station (Prater exit, two minutes on foot)
Underground line U1: Vorgartenstrasse station (Radingergasse exit, eight minutes on foot)

  • From Vienna International Airport
    You can get into the city centre or to UAS BFI Vienna using the inexpensive     S7 suburban train service (trains to Floridsdorf). Trains run every 30 minutes or so, and the journey time to the university is roughly 40 minutes.

    Get on at the airport train station (    Flughafen Wien) and off at Praterstern. You can then either walk (seven minutes) or take the U2 underground line to Messe Prater station (trains to Seestadt).

    Alternatively, take the non-stop     City Airport Train (CAT) to the city centre, which also runs every 30 minutes, but is more expensive. The journey time to the university is about 30 minutes. The CAT train will take you to Wien Mitte-Landstrasse station. From there, take a suburban rail (S-Bahn) service (S1, S2, S3, S4 or S7) one stop to Praterstern station (see above for further directions). You can also take the underground: U4 line (trains to Heiligenstadt) to Schottenring station, where you need to change onto the U2 and get off at Messe Prater (trains to Seestadt).


  • From Wien Hauptbahnhof (Vienna Main Station)
    You can take several S-Bahn services (e.g. S1, S2 and S3) from Vienna Main Station to     Praterstern (see above for directions from Praterstern to the university).
    Alternatively, take the     U1 underground line to Vorgartenstrasse (trains to Leopoldau). It will take 20-30 minutes to get to UAS BFI Vienna from Vienna Main Station. 


2. Car or taxi

  • By car
    From Praterstern square:     turn off the roundabout onto Ausstellungsstrasse and take the fourth left onto Wohlmutstrasse.
    From Handelskai (B14):     turn off onto Machstrasse, go past Elderschplatz, turn left onto Ausstellungsstrasse, and then take the third right onto Wohlmutstrasse.

    You need to buy a permit (maximum stay two hours) to park on the street in the second district from Monday to Friday between 9am and 10pm.
    There are several fee-charging multi-storey car parks near the university (e.g.     Garage Prater/Ausstellungsstrasse and Garage Messe Prater).


  • By taxi
    Various companies use the taxi ranks at Vienna International Airport and Vienna Main Station     (Wien Hauptbahnhof). The journey from the Airport to UAS BFI Vienna will cost about EUR 30. The fare from Vienna Main Station to the university will be roughly EUR 10.

iLRN Virtual Campus


The iLRN Virtual Campus is based on Virbela, a 3D virtual world platform “that brings people together in an immersive environment to work, learn, meet, and train from anywhere at any time.” iLRN is fortunate enough to benefit from an ongoing strategic partnership with and support from Virbela, who are also the Platinum Sponsors of the iLRN 2022 conference.

The iLRN Virtual Campus is freely accessible to iLRN members, and there is currently no cost to join the Network as an individual member. However, registrants for iLRN 2022 will be given special access to dedicated spaces/rooms on the Virtual Campus that will be used for conference sessions and activities and that will not be accessible to non-registrants.

Additionally, private spaces are available for lease on the Campus by educational institutions and by other organizations that are aligned with our mission, vision, values, and ethos—and that are committed to the innovative use of virtual and immersive technologies to promote high-quality outcomes for learners across the lifespan. Note that the iLRN Virtual Campus application is not the same as the Virbela “Open Campus” application available from Virbela’s website.


The iLRN Virtual Campus application can either operate in desktop mode on a Mac or Windows PC (system requirements can be found here), or alternatively, used with a tethered PC VR headset (HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest with Link Cable). Mobile device support is not available at this time.

Conference Code of Conduct


iLRN 2022 is an IEEE-affiliated conference. As such, our Conference Code of Conduct is mainly based on the IEEE VR Code of Conduct.

The iLRN 2022 conference is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. As a conference that aims to share ideas and freedom of thought and expression, it is essential that the conference takes place in an environment that recognizes the inherent worth of every person by being respectful of all. All communication should be appropriate for a professional audience including people of many different backgrounds. Attendees violating these rules may be asked to leave the conference without a refund at the sole discretion of the conference organizers. In addition, attendees are subject to the iLRN Code of Ethics. As parts of the conference are held in various online environments, attendees are also subject to:

If you wish to report a breach of the code of conduct this can be done via email to the iLRN Vice President for Conferences. All reports will only be sent to the authorized people and will be treated confidentially.
