Ran is faculty in the iSchool at the University of Washington, teaching Immersive Information Environments. Ran holds several patents in emerging technology and several books in Avatar based learning and psychology. Ran Hinrichs is also the CEO of 2b3d, a virtual worlds and serious games company. Ran is also 2b3d is a leading expert in interactive technologies including 3D serious games and Web 2.0 virtual business services, with several awards for their work.
A frequent keynote speaker at industry and academic conferences, Dr. Hinrichs’ current work is in the lead chapter of the The Oxford Handbook of Virtuality, which he uses as the class text for Info 466 at the UW. Other works include, Transforming Virtual World Education and Engaging the Avatar. Ran has worked with the Defense Center of Excellence’s Telehealth and Technology group building out PTSD Education and Orientation in Second Life, as well as Club One Island, a health club that shows more people losing weight in the virtual world, than in the physical world. Ran also serves as on the e-learning board at the University of Washington.
