Thank you for attending iLRN Coimbra 2017

We would like to thank attendees, organisers and volunteers at iLRN 2017 for making this such a successful conference. We had a fantastic time in Coimbra!

We have already started planning iLRN 2018 conference, which would take place in Montana, USA. We are also pleased to announce that iLRN 2019 will take place in London, UK.

In our annual face-to-face scholarly meeting we welcomed developers, educators, professionals, and researchers from 25 countries (Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, UK and the US.), all with the goal of collaborating to develop the scientific, technical, and applied potential of immersive learning.

iLRN’s Proceedings are now available!

Our venue for this meeting was one of the oldest universities in the world, the University of Coimbra which dates from 1290, in which many of its colleges and other buildings are protected as UNESCO World Heritage site. In this magnificent venue, our attendees presented more than 50 research papers, demos & posters, including:

Three exciting workshops:

  1. Imagine 2016 (in partnership with the Creative Science Foundation),
  2. Augmented Reality Trends in Education and
  3. Gamification and Mixed Reality.

Five stimulating special tracks:

  • Serious Games Using Immersive and Assistive Technologies,
  • Wearable Technology Enhanced Learning,
  • Digital Heritage and the Immersive City,
  • Immersive and Engaging Educational Experiences and
  • Personalisation in Immersive and Game-Based Learning Environments.

Six thought-provoking keynote talks by Prof Curt Bonk (Indiana University), Dr Carsten Ullrich (German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence DFKI), Prof. Minjuan Wang (Shanghai International Studies University & San Diego State University), Dr Alan Miller (University of St Andrews), Mr Nelson Vilhena (Critical Software), and our own Dr Jonathon Richter (iLRN).

Exciting social activities including: ‘Social Sunday’ tour to visit Coimbra medieval castles, Roman city ruins, rural mountain villages and end by the sea, a guided Tour of University of Coimbra (World Heritage) and Coimbra downtown walking tour, our traditional costume iLRN 2017 Awards Dinner, and a visit to CRITICAL Software or IPN Institute & Take the Wind.
